Billie Ray Young

Billie Ray Young, age 75, of McKinney Mine Road in Spruce Pine, died Monday, November 20, 2017 at his home.Born on March 31, 1942 in Yancey County, he was the son of the late John and Dorothy Burnette Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Young who passed away in 2014. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Phillips; a brother, Fred Young; and a sister, Florence Henderson.Billie was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Sullins Branch Baptist Church. He will be remembered for his love of music and playing the guitar. He enjoyed going to church and old classic cars. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog, Johnny. Left to cherish his memories are his daughters; Angela Dolan of Little Switzerland; Sharon Burleson and husband, Jim of Bakersville; and Tina Hollifield and husband, Steve of Spruce Pine; his sister; Mae Elliott of Marion; there are six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the graveside service and interment honoring the life of Billie Ray Young on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the Burnette Cemetery.In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Webb Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.Words of comfort may be e-mailed to the family by going to our website; www.webbfh.com., selecting Billie Ray Young’s name and then you may sign his guestbook.
