Carol K. Duncan, age 89, of Rockledge Road in Spruce Pine, beloved daughter, wife, and mother died Friday, May 20, 2016 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.Born April 10, 1927 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Edward C. and Emma Krueger Knepler. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Bill Duncan who passed away in 2005 and an infant sister, Maxine Vera Knepler.Carol will be remembered as a person with love for people, particularly her children. She always put others first and devoted herself to taking care of her husband, Bill. She was a simple person and had a great sense of humor. She also enjoyed her pets.Left to cherish her memories are her son Alan Duncan (Carolyn) of Jacksonville, FL; her daughters; Susan Mackey (Doug) of Old Fort, Jean Duncan of Spruce Pine, and Jane Duncan (Greg Koop) of Waialua, HI; grandchildren; Jason Gouge of Old Fort, Josh Polk and Brian Polk both of Charlotte; great grandchildren; Alex Gouge of Hickory and Jayden Gouge of Old Fort.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the graveside service honoring the life of Carol Duncan on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon at Webb Funeral Home. Jean & Jane, I'm so very sorry in the loss of your mother. I don't know if you remember or not, but we went to school together and I dearly loved you both. I see one of you live in Hawaii so I'm coming to live with you. I love that place. I just want you to know I Will be praying for all of you. Red is for LOVE and that is how I felt about my dear friend Carol. I truly loved her. Even though we did not stay in touch the way we should have she was always among the people mama and I reminisced about when I visit Spruce Pine from time to time. My daughters middle name is Carol, named after my precious friend. Please R.I.P. Dear friend.

I feel I have lost a member of my own family, to me Carol was like my favorite aunt. I visited with Carol and Bill several times through the years. Coming back to Spruce Pine was like coming back home. I wish I could have been there for Carol's funeral but I did not find out about the arrangements until late yesterday evening (5-23) which did not leave me with the option of traveling to Spruce Pine.

I did not know any of Carol's family - but want to share a memory with them. Your Mom was good friends with our mother - Gladys Burleson. When my Dad died in 1988 Carol seemed to 'carry' us for days. After, we wondered to each other 'what do we do now, Carol is not here'. It seemed every issue was handled quietly and well, by Carol. We will never forget the kindness as she shared. I hope I can be a small part of that in my life.
