Cathy Dobson, age 83, of Rogers Street in Spruce Pine died Monday, November 21, 2016 at Smokey Ridge Health and Rehab in Burnsville.Born on August 4, 1933 in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Colonel Nelson and Annis McKinney Mease. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Dobson who passed away in June of this year. She was also preceded in death by her brothers; G.K. Mease and C.N. Mease. She was employed by Fortner Insurance of Spruce Pine and later Mayland Community College where she taught prisoners life training skills and also was responsible for scheduling visiting artists.Cathy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine and was a Sunday School Teacher. She was the co-director of the Bethlehem Market Place Christmas drama at First Baptist Church in Spruce Pine. She was the co-writer and co-director of the Mitchell County 4-H talent show for many years and was active with the Mitchell County Homemakers. She was also the Chairman of the Heart Fund Balloon Sales and very active with the American Heart Association.Left to cherish her memories are her daughter; Jacque Deitz of Spruce Pine; her son; Chris Dobson of Marion; her grandson; Robert Jackson Deitz of Spruce Pine; her sister; Carolyn Marlowe of Black Mountain; several nieces and nephews.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the memorial service honoring the life of Cathy Dobson on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine with Dr. Rocky Branch and Teddy McKinney officiating. I know this is late....but what the hey......better late than never......I've been mulling over in my mind as what to say about Miss Cathy. She was truly one of a kind person. I've known her since I was probably 5yrs old. She was the one that got me into these fancy schmancy modeling shows with the frilly dresses, socks, & big hairbows along with the big hair. She was someone I looked up to as a person & a mentor to the pageant world. She always had a smile on her face & taught me that even on our worst days there is a smile deep down inside all of us. She, along with others, helped me to become that well rounded young lady with good morals & values instilled within me to instill within my own two children. Cathy Dobson you will be missed greatly & how I wish my little girl could've known you like I did! She would've loved you just as much as I did!! To the family, you have my prayers, love, & condolences. I know the holidays weren't the same without her but just remember she is in a better place & we'll see her again one day in Heaven. I have known Cathy since 1972, when both families came to SP as a result of our husbands job transfers. Cathy was without a doubt one of the most caring,selfless,gracious ladies I have ever known.

I shall always treasure our friendship with the fond memories of our special times together, and pray that the family's present sorrow will soon be replaced with their own pleasant memories.
