David Lindsey Pendley, Jr., age 93, of Forest Hill Dive in Spruce Pine, died Monday, January 19, 2015 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.Born on January 30, 1921 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late David Lindsey Pendley, Sr. and Bertie Freeman Pendley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Rumbough Pendley who passed away in 2005. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jack Pendley.Mr. Pendley was a U.S. Marines veteran of World War II that served in China. He was also a life member of Vesper Lodge #554 A.F. & A.M. and a past master. He was a certified Masonic Lecturer and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a life long member of the Spruce Pine United Methodist Church.Left to cherish his memories are his daughters; Jane Hooper and husband, Kemp of Gastonia and Sarah King and husband, Lee of Flat Rock, NC; his sister; Evelyn Hughes of Spruce Pine; his grandchildren; Bryan King, Kelli Voelsing, and Patrick Hooper; and his great grandchildren; Lindsay and Andrew Voelsing.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the memorial service honoring the life of David Pendley on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Spruce Pine United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeremy Troxler officiating. Masonic funeral rites will follow the memorial service in the church.
