Emory Buchanan

Emory Buchanan, age 88, of Ridge Road in Spruce Pine, passed on to his heavenly home on Monday, March 16, 2015 at his residence.Born on February 9, 1927in Yancey County, he was the son of the late Samuel and Bertie Robinson Buchanan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Claude, Edison and Leland Buchanan and a sister; Elsie CassidaMr. Buchanan was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He worked 20 plus years for Gouge Oil in the surrounding area. He was a long time member of Pleasant Gap Baptist Church and at the time had been attending Green Valley Baptist Church. Emory’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.Left to cherish his memories are his wife; Mary Louise Ollis Buchanan; his daughters; Sharon Braswell and husband, Butch of Spruce Pine, Lorie Dover and husband, Tee of Spruce Pine, Deborah Sparks and fiancé, Mathew Baldwin of Marion and Cindy Ollis and husband, Ben of Spruce Pine, brothers; Jack, Ray, Marvin and Vernon Buchanan, sisters; June Laws, Annie Dover and Glenna Dellinger, ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.The funeral service for Emory Buchanan will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 7:00 pm at the Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev’s Brian Griffith and Ralph Perry officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 pm until the service hour.
