Erlene E. Hughes

Erlene Emma Hughes, age 88, of Roaring Creek Road in Newland, died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Brian Center & Rehab in Spruce Pine.Born on July 4, 1929 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Gus and Maggie Hopson Hughes and the wife of the late Choda Hughes. She was also preceded in death by her daughter; Emma Gail Hughes and a brother; Harold C. Hughes.Erlene will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother that loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved gardening and canning. She was retired from the Tar Heel Mica Company and was a member of the Peoples Church on Roaring Creek.Left to cherish her memories are her daughter; Joann Dellinger and husband, Randy of Newland; her sister; Iva Greene of Newland; her brother; Darrell Hughes and wife, Carol of North Cove; her grandsons; Jonathan Dellinger and wife, Sara of Newland and Dustin Dellinger and wife, Renee of Banner Elk; her great grandchildren; Canaan, Noah, Calvary, and Emma; and several nieces and nephews.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Erlene Hughes on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Carver, Jr. officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.
