Eunice Robinson Riddle, age 89, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Spruce Pine, NC. Born on December 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Hubert Robinson who died in 1951 and the late Aileen Chrisawn Robinson who died in 1996. Mrs. Riddle was born in Micaville, NC. Mrs. Riddle was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe William Riddle who died on February 9, 2006. Also, Mrs. Riddle lost two brothers and one sister who all died in childhood.Mrs. Riddle was an honors graduate of Harris High School in Spruce Pine in the class of 1945. She entered Mars Hill College in the fall of 1945 but decided to leave school to marry Mr. Riddle on October 7, 1946. Later in life she earned her A.A.S. degree in medical records technology from LaSalle Correspondence School in Chicago, Illinois.Eunice Riddle worked in the medical office field for over fifty-three years and was employed by Spruce Pine Community Hospital, Dr. Jack Horner, MD, F.A.C.S., Blue Ridge Family Practice, and Bakersville Community Medical Clinic, where she retired in the early 1990’s.Mrs. Riddle, a devout Southern Baptist, went to work as secretary of First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine, where she was employed from the early 1990’s through December, 2003. While there, she helped write a church history. She also held several voluntary positions on the church over the years, including but not limited to teaching a junior boys Sunday school class and working with the Girls Auxiliary {G.A’s.}. Eunice served as the W.M.U. Director and was the first woman elected deacon. She really enjoyed entertaining her W.M.U. circle group in her home, helped with B.T.U. on Sunday night and she and her husband, Joe enjoyed helping in the church nursery. In the 1950’s Joe and Eunice would enjoy hosting Wednesday night prayer services in their home.Eunice also enjoyed several hobbies such as knitting, sewing, quilting, one of which is on display at the Bakersville Community Medical Clinic, reading, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables and playing the piano and keyboard. She also loved to travel; she took trips all over the United States, including Hawaii. Eunice and Joe were able to visit Washington state, Niagara Falls, NY, British Columbia, and Glorieta, New Mexico as well as other interesting places.Left to cherish her memories are her daughters; Virginia Hunt and husband, Charlie of Spruce Pine and Mary R. Pearsall of Greensboro; her sister; Emma Lou B. McMahon of Burnsville; two grandsons; William Thomas Hunt and wife, Jenni of Newmarket, New Hampshire and Jason Keith Charles and wife, Shelli of High Point, North Carolina; one great grandson; Joseph William Hunt of Newmarket, New Hampshire. Eunice is also survived by two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law as well as numerous nieces and nephews.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Eunice Riddle on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine with Dr. Rocky Branch officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 1:00 pm until the service hour at the church.
