Franklin ‘Frank’ Mansfield Adkins, age 76, of Blue Heaven Terrace in Spruce Pine died Saturday, October 23, 2014 in Savannah, GA.Born on January 23, 1938 in McDowell County, he was the son of the late Wayne and Frances Lancaster Adkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca James. He was also preceded in death by his stepson, Brian Singleton.Frank was a member and elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Spruce Pine. He was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Appalachian State University and Furman University. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Labor. After retiring from the labor department, he was the owner and president of Safepro, Inc. He had a great love for the mining industry and its people.Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Carolyn Adkins of Spruce Pine; his children; Jeff, Kevin, Deborah, and Meredith; stepdaughter; Miranda Singleton Delon and husband Robin of Los Angles, CA; his grandchildren; Danielle Singleton, Mason Singleton, Dolce Delon, Diorcheere Delon, Chantea Delon, and Chanel Delon and his little buddy “Coco”.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at a Celebration of Life Service honoring the life of Frank Adkins on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 3:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Spruce Pine with the Rev. Bill Sweetser officiating.
