Franklin ‘Frank’ Mansfield Adkins, age 76, of Blue Heaven Terrace in Spruce Pine died Saturday, October 23, 2014 in Savannah, GA.Born on January 23, 1938 in McDowell County, he was the son of the late Wayne and Frances Lancaster Adkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca James. He was also preceded in death by his stepson, Brian Singleton.Frank was a member and elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Spruce Pine. He was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Appalachian State University and Furman University. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Labor. After retiring from the labor department, he was the owner and president of Safepro, Inc. He had a great love for the mining industry and its people.Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Carolyn Adkins of Spruce Pine; his children; Jeff, Kevin, Deborah, and Meredith; stepdaughter; Miranda Singleton Delon and husband Robin of Los Angles, CA; his grandchildren; Danielle Singleton, Mason Singleton, Dolce Delon, Diorcheere Delon, Chantea Delon, and Chanel Delon and his little buddy “Coco”.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at a Celebration of Life Service honoring the life of Frank Adkins on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 3:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Spruce Pine with the Rev. Bill Sweetser officiating. Ms. Blue....I have often wondered about you and Frank. I met a guy who worked with mining and could not think of your last name to ask if he knew you. I finally thought of it and just now googled Frank's name and was shocked to hear that he had died. I know how close you two were. It is not a fun journey to be on. I still miss Hugh Strong like crazy, but life goes on. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you even though it is late. Marta
We just heard the news here in South Dakota about Frank passing away. I am very saddened to hear this. Frank was truly an inspiration to me and to the employees I work with. Frank helped make our miners safer and taught us lessons that I will remember for the rest of my life. I never met anybody in his family but I felt like I knew them personally because he was always talking about them. He was so very proud of his wife and always spoke so highly of Ms. Blue. The first time I met Frank 20 years ago I was 24 years old and very naive in the mining industry. Frank took it upon himself to teach me as much as I was willing to learn and he never hesitated to take my phone calls when I wanted his advice. Thank you Frank for everything you have done for me and our company. You will be missed.

We are so saddened by Franks passing he was such a good friend Richard has always said Frank was a brother by another mother. Frank was a dear friend and a great teacher. We had fun in Savannah and he treated everyone as if he had known them all his life. Will miss him.
