.James Patrick ‘Jim’ Begley, Sr., age 72, of Davenport Road in Spruce Pine, died peacefully surrounded by his family, on March 9, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine, NC.James Patrick “Jim” Begley Sr. was born July 8, 1945 in New York, NY and was proud of his Irish parents, the late Joseph Francis and Teresa McCoy Begley. He was also preceded in death by his brothers; Michael Joseph and Joseph Gerard Begley and his sister; Teresa Mary Dowd.Jim proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1963 through 1967 achieving the rank of Sergeant and worked as an Aircraft Launch and Recovery Technician during the Vietnam War and maintained special comradery with members of the USMC SATS/EAF Association. He had a long career in the construction industry and is regarded fondly by Saint Nicholas for his special appointments honoring Santa Claus during the Christmas Season.He is survived by daughter; Irene (Joe) Miller, son; James Patrick (Pat) Begley Jr., grandchildren; Julia Miller, Joel (Patrick) Begley, Paul Miller, Tessie Miller, sister; Catherine Anne (Jim Tomlinson) Begley, cousin; Patrick (Paddy) Begley, and stepson; Tracy (Lori) McIntyre. He had a special relationship with granddaughter Tessie who was the joy of his life.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral mass honoring the life of James Patrick ‘Jim” Begley, Sr. on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at the St. Lucien Catholic Church with Father Christopher Gober officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Webb Funeral Home. My deepest sympathy to Jim's family.. only today I heard the news.. he was a good pal of mine, he used to visit me weekly at work and I stored most of his Santa stuff at my warehouse.. he was a character that's for sure, and needless to say he would do anything for you with that big heart of his... sorry I didn't get to say goodbye Jimbo mate, I'll miss talking to you, rest in peace.. Remembering Jimmy fondly and the visit to Lake Laniere, GA where Joe and I enjoyed the hospitality of his lovely sailboat. He arrived each morning with hot coffee and breakfast pastries, a welcome start to our day. I can only image his joyful reunion with Michael, Joe, and Terri, and their parents.

Well , " Compensator Man " you walked around the jet engine catapult in Viet Nam with a rag in your hand just to keep the sand off the Compensator Ram of the Catapult , but who knows what else you wiped with that nasty rag ; knowing you as I did , you probably blew your nose with the rag as well. Was working in the Asheville, NC VA ER as a housekeeper and met Jim there. Found out he was a 7011 L&R tech like me only the earlier MOREST gear. It seemed there were a bunch of ol' Jarheads there that day and was called down to be quiet. Later on in the shift the same nurse asked how I knew all those Marines. Simple I said.... Marines are Brothers..... Rest easy Marine. It was an honor to meet you.
