Joyce Carpenter, age 82, of Carpenter Island Road in Spruce Pine died Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Brian Center Health & Rehab in Spruce Pine.Born on June 18, 1935 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Gird and Martha Stamey Biddix. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband; Scott Carpenter. She was also preceded in death by a son; Jimmy Buck Carpenter; a daughter; Joyce Ann Smith; a brother; Jack Biddix; two half-brothers; Lewis and Robert; and her sisters; Iris and Patty.Joyce was member of the Berry Chapel Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother that enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and doing lots of activities with them. She enjoyed cooking and having her family home for the holidays. She also enjoyed reading the Bible.Left to cherish her memories are her daughters; Cynthia Marcus and husband, James of Spruce Pine and Linda Turbyfill and husband, Hobart of Roan Mountain, TN; her sons; Johnny Carpenter and David Carpenter and wife, Mary all of Spruce Pine; her brothers; Tommy Biddix and Ray Biddix both of Spruce Pine; there are eleven grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Joyce Carpenter on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev’s. Steve Williams, Greg Hollifield, and Charles Adkins officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. My sister and I have Sunday School at the Brian Center Sunday mornings. When she was able she would always be there. It was church to her and she really enjoyed it. We will always remember her sweet personality and that special smile she had. We loved her! Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
