Joyce Gouge Ellis, age 82, of Indian Brook Drive in Matthews, NC died Monday, March 17, 2014 at Carrington Place Nursing Home in Matthews, NC. She was born May 11, 1931 in Mitchell County and was the daughter of the late Mack and Virgie Murdock Gouge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Ellis, Sr. She was also a former member of the Shamrock Baptist Church. Joyce Ellis leaves behind her daughter; Diane Walter and husband, Gary of Matthews; her son; Bobby Ellis and wife, Debbie of Matthews; her granddaughters; Jennifer Ford and husband, Stephen of Matthews and Katie Walter of Matthews; her grandsons; Joseph Ellis and wife, Nikki of Matthews and Clynt Walter and wife, Amber of Matthews; her great grandchildren; Brooke and Kendall Ford, Jonathan and Joshua Ellis, Jillian, Jocelyn, and William Walter; her brothers; Rev. George Gouge of New Salem; Bill Gouge of Atlanta, GA; and Jim Gouge of New Port News, VA; and her sisters; Jackie Thomas of Bakersville and Jo Ann Sullins of Spruce Pine. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Mrs. Joyce Ellis at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 20, 2013 in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with Rev’s George Gouge and Steve Williams officiating. A time to receive friends and share memories and support the family will be from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow the service in the Ledger Baptist Church Cemetery.
