Juanita Smith

Juanita Buchanan Smith, age 89, of Harris Street in Spruce Pine, died Monday, September 11, 2017 at Mitchell House in Spruce Pine.Born on May 13, 1928 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Molton and Nola Pittman Buchanan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband; Earl Braswell and later her second husband, Lee Smith. She was also preceded in death by her sisters; Georgia Fisher, Louise Bayuik, and Ann Boone, a brother, Charles Buchanan; her son, Larry Van Braswell and her daughter; Carol B. Hoppin.Juanita will be remembered as a loving person and everybody loved her. She enjoyed playing the organ, working crossword puzzles, traveling and camping. She was a member of the ‘Golden Age Singers’ and was a member of the Sullins Branch Baptist Church.Left to cherish her memories are her daughter; Brenda Blevins and husband, Gilbert of Burnsville; her step daughters; Barbara Grindstaff of Burnsville and Earlene Woody of Morganton; her sisters; Lou Ella Polechio and Katherine Wheeler both of Spruce Pine; her grandchildren; Tim Blevins, Todd Blevins, Travis Blevins, and Larry Braswell, Jr.; and there are seven great grandchildren.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Juanita Smith on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev’s. Doug Willis, Steve Williams, and Houston Hoilman officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 2:00 pm until the service hour in the funeral home chapel.
