Lace Stafford, age 87, of Stafford Lane in Newland, the Plumtree community, died Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was the son of the late Claude and Matilda McKinney Stafford. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rhiannon, four sisters and seven brothers.These are the words that Lace wrote for his own obituary that he wanted family and friends to know about him. He was a loving father and husband. He loved God and country and he also loved Yellow Mountain Baptist Church. He sang bass in the church choir for several years. He served the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was released with the rank of Specialist Third Class.His family would like for you to know that he was a gifted storyteller and had the best jokes to tell. He sang songs for us whenever we asked and we loved to hear him sing. He gave wonderful hugs and always made others feel loved and accepted.Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of sixty-one years; Betty Johnson Stafford of Plumtree; his daughters; Twila Stafford Ingwersen and husband, Allan of Montezuma; Connie Stafford Harrison and husband, Hal of Spruce Pine; Mona Lisa Stafford Good and husband, Skip of Marion; his son; Michael Lace Stafford of Spruce Pine; his grandchildren; Ben Harrison, Amber Harrison, Daniel Ingwersen, David Ingwersen, Johnathon Stafford, and Abbigail Stafford; one great grandson, Pierce Harrison and one great granddaughter a baby girl Ingwersen, scheduled to arrive in August.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Lace Stafford on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 3:30 pm at the Yellow Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Bill McGuire and Junior Carver officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 2:00 pm until the service hour at the church. Interment will follow in the Yellow Mountain Cemetery with military honors.Pallbearers will be; Ben Harrison, Daniel Ingwersen, David Ingwersen, Johnathon Stafford, Vincent Piedi, Kenny Stafford, Bill Grindstaff, Ronnie Stafford, and Eddie Ray Stafford.
