Lane Ward

Lane Ward, age 78, of Spruce Pine died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Brian Center Health & Rehab in Spruce Pine.He was born on March 21, 1936 in Mitchell County and was the son of the late A Ward and the late Bonnie Pitman Ward.Lane was in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. He graduated from Blanton’s Business College and worked for a time in Greenland. He retired from the trucking business as owner and operator of Ward Transportation. He loved fishing and spending time at the beach. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Spruce Pine, and a member of the Spruce Pine Kiwanis Club.Lane Ward leaves behind his wife; Willa Ann Ward of Spruce Pine; his daughter; Kathey Aldridge and husband, Danny of Crossnore; his sister; Louise McKinney and nieces of Elizabethton, TN; his stepdaughter; Susan Fanning and husband, Richard of Fuquay-Varina, NC; his stepson; Richard Baker and wife, Dee of Spruce Pine; his grandchildren; Josh and Dylan Aldridge; and his step grandchildren; Will and Katy Fanning and John, Loren, and Leah Baker.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Mr. Lane Ward at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 18, 2014 in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Jody Griffin officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of Peace at the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery.
