Linton Goforth, age 87, of Christopher Road in Marion died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the Charles George V.A. Medical Center in Asheville.Born on June 5, 1927 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Lynn and Nellie Watson Goforth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Cox. He was also preceded in death by his brothers; Eldon Goforth and wife, Louise; Preston Goforth and wife, Vernice; Jennings Goforth and wife, Doris; Sam Goforth and wife, Margaret; and Tom Goforth and wife, Mike; his sisters; Una Richardson and husband, Harry; Veta Griffith and husband, Clyde; Audrey Phillips and husband, Tom and Frances McKinney and husband, Marvin.Mr. Goforth was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He attended the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and was retired from Baxter’s Healthcare.Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Emma June Goforth of Marion; his son; James Goforth of Marion; his daughters; Susie Goforth of Castlewood, VA and Penny Gross and husband, Jeff of Marion; his sister; Lucy Ray and husband, Al of Burnsville; his brother; Buddy Goforth and wife, Frances of Spruce Pine; his son-in-law; Michael Cox, his grandchildren; Terry Goforth, Joey Goforth, Susan Phillips, Emma Wolfe, B.J. Trent, Halley Allison, James Gross, Steven Trent, Mason Goforth, and Gypsie Goforth; and his great grandchildren; Kara Stroup, Zachary Wolfe, Tyler Phillips, Kaley Wolfe, Kirsten Phillips, Trevor Wolfe, Kenide Phillips, Tara Wolfe, Bentley Goforth, Alyssa Allison, Isabella Wolfe, and Peyton Wolfe.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Linton Goforth on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Burleson officiating. A time to receive friends and share memories and support the family will be from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Friday, February 13, 2015 at the church.
