Malone Young, age 88, of Sunshine Hill Apartments died Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Brian Center Health and Rehab in Spruce Pine.Malone was born on June 21, 1926 in Avery County and was the son of the late Garrett and Lily Hughes Young. He was preceded in death by his brothers; Ford, Ershel, Floyd, and Howard Young and his sisters; Bonnie Burleson and Oakie Hopson.He was a ‘one of a kind’’ man that had traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and had many interesting stories to tell. He was an avid hiker, fisherman, and hunter. Also, he was an active member of the Mitchell County Senior Citizens Center and had special friends there including Kathy Garland and Sue and Elaine with Mitchell County Transportation. He attended the Bear Creek Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II.Left to cherish her memories are his daughter; Diane Young of Clarksburg, WV; grandson; Aaron Richards and wife, Mary of Parkersburg, WV; great granddaughter; Destity Richards of Parkersburg, WV; brother; Dallas Young of Roaring Creek; lifelong friend of fifty years; Erlene Hughes of Roaring Creek; special friends and caretakers; Larry and Darlene Johnson of Roaring Creek; several nieces and nephews. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Malone Young on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Rathbone officiating. Interment will follow in the Hughes Cemetery. A time to receive friends, share memories and support the family will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 25, 2014 in the funeral home chapel.Flowers will be accepted and appreciated.Words of comfort may be e-mailed to the family by going to our website; www.webbfh.com, selecting Malone Young’s name and then you may sign his guestbook. So very sad to hear of Malone's passing. He was such a sweet and gentle man. I will miss his sweet face and smile. Every time he came into the office I work at , he was always sure to tell you how much he appreciated everything that was done for him. Till we meet again Malone, Rest in peace.
