Mildred Phillips McKinney, age 90, of Arbuckle Road in Burnsville passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016.Born on June 8, 1925 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Edward S. and Florence Silvers Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husbands; James Arthur Huskins and Collins Orb McKinney. She was also preceded in death by her brothers; John, Tom, Ed, and Bill Phillips and her sister; Mary Ellen Buchanan.Mrs. McKinney was a member of the Black Mountain Baptist Church; but, she had attended the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine for the past fourteen years. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and taught Vacation Bible School. In addition, she enjoyed needle point work and sewing for her grandchildren as well as making pocket crosses for friends and family that reached all around the world. She was a devoted mother and grandmother that enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends.Left to cherish, her son; Philip Huskins and wife, Donna of Macon, GA; her daughters; Betty Ringler and husband, Mike of Rock Hill, SC ; Selinda Boone and husband, Larry of Burnsville; Judy Rhodes and husband Mark of Newton; her grandchildren; Shannon Huskins ; Jennifer Wallace and husband Bobby; Heather Fernandez and husband, Roberto; Ciji Dellinger and husband, Chad; Jessica Ringler; Stephanie Helmes and husband Danny; Lynae Rhodes and fiancée, Daniel Watts; her great grandchildren; Cailan, Garrett, Jordan, Scott, Aaron, Jesse, Izzy, Mia, and Ana; her sister; Jean Phillips of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Mildred McKinney on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 6:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine with Dr. Rocky Branch and Joi Williams officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 4:00 pm until the service hour at the church.
