Ophelia ‘Teed’ Wilson, age 90, of Overlook Drive in Spruce Pine passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 16, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack and her son, Michael.Born on December 29, 1926, Teed was a long time resident of Spruce Pine. She was one of the first telephone operators for Southern Bell. Teed retired from the Mitchell County School System where she worked as a teacher’s assistant.She loved spending time with her friends from the Red Hats and Breakfast Club, gardening, playing cards and reading a good book.Teed is survived by her sister; Martha Pendley and husband, John and several nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to either Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge or Snow Hill Cemetery Fund.A private burial service will be held at a later date.Words of comfort may be e-mailed to the family by going to our website; www.webbfh.com., selecting Ophelia ‘Teed’ Wilson’s name and then you may sign her guestbook. Teed was my first teacher assistant when I started working as a 2nd grade teacher in Mitchell County schools in 1975. Back then we shared assistants and she was with me 2 hours a day. She did so much to help the students in my classroom who struggled with reading that year.
