Robert John ‘Bob’ Schabilion, age 89, of Hwy. 226-South in Spruce Pine died Thursday, November 13, 2014 at his home.A native of Davenport, Iowa, he was the son of the late Clark and Nellie Howell Schabilion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother; George Schabilion and a sister; Ruth Prinz.Bob was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corp. He loved to fly airplanes and flew all of his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine.Left to cherish his memories are his daughters; Lynn Evans and husband, Gil of Flora, MS; Candace McNamara and husband, Leo of Flora, MS; Beverly Schabilion of Little Switzerland; his son; Alan Schabilion and wife, Catherine of Little Switzerland; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Bob Schabilion on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 5:30 pm at the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine with Dr. Rocky Branch, Bobby Greene, and Larry Greene officiating. I knew Bob for a little over 50 years. It was not long enough. I am not good with words at a time like this,. Anything that is said will never convey what I and others in the Mathews family thought of him. To say that he will be missed is so inadequate. There will never be another like him. Rest well my friend.
