Ruth Buchanan

Ruth Hollifield Buchanan, age 86, of Stewart Road in Bakersville died Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the Brian Center Health and Rehab in Spruce Pine.Born on May 31, 1929 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Misher and Glennie Buchanan Hollifield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Buchanan who passed away in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her brothers; Robert, Roy Misher ’Son’, Charles, Ray, Billy, and Fred Hollifield; and her sister; Jewel Buchanan. Ruth was a member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church. She loved sewing, working in the garden and her flowers. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. Ruth was the caregiver for her family and loved her family, children, and grandchildren.Left to cherish her memories are her son; David Buchanan and wife, Deborah of Spruce Pine; her daughters; Jo Ellen Brewer and husband, Phillip of Hudson; Brenda McClellan and husband, Randy of Spruce Pine; Shirley Smith and husband, Dean of Spruce Pine; Nancy Smith and husband, Gene of Spruce Pine; sister; Betty Johnson and husband Bill of Bakersville; and brother; John Hollifield and wife Mary of Spruce Pine; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and two great, great grandchildren.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence for the funeral service honoring the life of Ruth Buchanan at 3:00 pm on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Bear Creek Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Ricky Hollifield and Darrin Waldroup officiating. Interment will follow in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
