Gladys H. Buchanan

Gladys Huskins Buchanan, age 91, of Burnsville passed from this life to her eternal home on February 6, 2013 at Brian Center Health and Rehab of Spruce Pine. Born on January 12, 1922 in Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late E.W. and Dollie Washburn Huskins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Buchanan who passed in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her sister; Jean Fitzgerald; her brothers; Arthur, Gordon, Charles, and Will Huskins; and her nephew, Tommy Huskins. Mrs. Buchanan was a graduate of Micaville High School and attended Blanton’s Business College in Asheville. She was a secretary for Robbins Knitting Mill in Spruce Pine until its closing and then worked for several other businesses in the same position. She and her husband, Bill were co-owners with Ed and Shelba Buchanan of the Marion Car Wash. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine where she served as her Sunday School Treasurer and was a member of the Church Kitchen Committee. She had a special gift of love and hospitality for her family and all who knew her. Mrs. Gladys Huskins Buchanan is survived by her brothers; Troy Huskins and wife, Faye of Burnsville and Homer Huskins of Salisbury, NC; special caregiver and friend; Betty Stafford; several nieces and nephews. The funeral services for Mrs. Gladys H. Buchanan will be conducted on Saturday, February 9, 2012 at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Matthew Costner officiating. Interment will be in the Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon in the funeral home chapel. The pall bearers are Dale Duncan, Tommy Phillips, Jimmy Phillips, Dan Wilson, Jim Gouge and Butch Renaldo.
