Lawrence Joseph Jones, age 78, of Smiley Way in Bakersville, the Lily Branch community, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville.Lawrence was born on March 8, 1936 in Mitchell County and was the son of the late Cicero and Pearl Fisher Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Lester, Coy, Robert, and Lewis Jones and a sister; Wilma Lea Jones.He was a member of the Lily Branch Baptist Church. He loved life and spending time with people. He enjoyed joking, kidding and having good clean fun with everyone. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.Left to cherish her memories are his wife; Helen Grindstaff Jones of the home; his daughter; Connie Jones Carpenter of Bakersville; his grandson; Justin Carpenter of Bakersville; his granddaughter; Cheyenne McEwan of Bakersville; honorary daughter; Bobbie Jo Laws of Burnsvile; honorary granddaughter; Abbie Wheeler of Burnsville; his sister; Gladys Rose of Spruce Pine and his brother; Johnny Jones and wife, Mary of Spruce Pine. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Mr. Lawrence Jones on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Lily Branch Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Steve Williams and Vernon Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow in the Lily Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
