Ava King Hughes, age 89, of Roaring Creek went to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.Born on December 19, 1928 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Laura Wilson King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Hughes who passed away in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her sisters; Evie Hughes and Nell Hoilman and her brothers; Ralph King and Ray King.Ava was a member of the Roaring Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She was a self-taught pianist and served as the church pianist for many years. She loved playing the piano, cooking for her family, gardening, and crocheting. Throughout her life, she helped numerous people in the Roaring Creek community. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.Left to cherish her memories are her daughter; Louella Hughes and husband, Jack of Roaring Creek; her sons; Phillip Hughes and wife, Debbie of Roaring Creek and David Hughes and wife, Kathy of Cranberry; her brother; Alfred King and wife, Margaret of Elizabethton, TN; there are eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchildren.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Ava Hughes on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the Roaring Creek Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Hughes officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Roaring Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Hughes Cemetery on Jerry’s Creek Road.The family greatly appreciates the wonderful care given to Ava and would like to extend special ‘Thanks’ to Life Care Center of Banner Elk and the Nurses and staff of Cannon Memorial Hospital.In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to; Roaring Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 2044 Roaring Creek Road, Newland, NC 28657.Words of comfort may be e-mailed to the family by going to our website; www.webbfh.com., selecting Ava Hughes’ name and then you may sign her guestbook.
