Bard Benfield

Bard Wesley Benfield, age 88, of Elk Park Highway in Newland went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at his home.Born on March 23, 1928 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Joe Lum and Dory Lee Benfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-nine years, Edna Burleson Benfield who passed away in July of this year. Bard loved to play the guitar and sing with his late wife. He also loved to play tricks with people he loved. He will be greatly missed by the town of Newland. He had many friends in Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, and Florida.Left to cherish his memories are his niece and caregiver, Audry Jean Ashley of the home; his brothers; Fred Benfield of Newland and Bill Benfield of Lexington, NC; special niece, Carlene Woody of Spruce Pine; brother-in-law; Carl Burleson of Spruce Pine; sister-in-law; Lorene Burleson of Spruce Pine. Bard also left behind many nieces, nephews; great nieces, and great nephews.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Bard Benfield on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. William Ellis officiating.
