February 10, 1935 - December 8, 2021
Betty Washburn Jarrett, very loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on December 8, 2021 at the age of 86. Betty died peacefully at home in Moore, South Carolina, with her daughter Paula Wayne and her son-in-law Chris by her side. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her granddaughters, Hannah Marie of Charleston, South Carolina, and Christiana of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Betty was born to the late Henry and Nettie Washburn on February 10, 1935 in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. She was raised in a large family of six sisters and two brothers and had many nieces and nephews. After graduating from Harris High School in 1953, she attended business college in Marion, North Carolina, and worked afterward as a bookkeeper and tax preparer. In 1960 she wed the love of her life, Paul Jarrett, and was happily married until his death in 2002. They made a home in Charlotte, North Carolina, until 2000 when they returned to live in Spruce Pine. Betty was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Spartanburg and former member of Bethel Baptist Church in Spruce Pine. She found particular comfort in Christ’s directive in John 14. “Do not let your heart be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.” Caring for her family was the focus of her life. “Memaw” inspired a love of cooking in Hannah Marie and cultivated a love of books in Christiana. She was loyally on the sidelines of her granddaughters’ ballgames, cheering them on to victory and consoling them in defeat. A graveside funeral service is scheduled for 2 pm on December 13, 2021 at the Rebel’s Creek Baptist Church cemetery at 21 Howell Road in Bakersville, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorials to the Spartanburg Regional Foundation at www.regionalfoundation.com or at P.O. Box 2624, Spartanburg, South Carolina, 29304. Words of comfort may be e-mailed to the family by going to our website; www.webbfh.com, selecting Betty Jarrett’s name and then you may sign her guestbook.
