Bobby Gene Calloway

Bobby Gene Calloway, age 75, of Baldwin Lane in Lincolnton, formerly of Plumtree died Monday, July 10, 2017 in a Lincolnton hospital.Born on July 22, 1941 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Burl Jesse and Alta Mae Barrier Calloway. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Martha Benfield Calloway who passed away in 2011. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ann Calloway.Bobby was a loving father and grandfather that loved his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and listening to bluegrass music and also listening to Ralph Stanley. He was retired from Ethan Allen Furniture.Left to cherish his memories are his sons; Lonnie Benfield and wife, Judy of Newland; David Lee Calloway and wife, Kaitlyn of Plumtree; Robert Calloway and wife, Kindell of Newland; Michael Allen Calloway and Jason Calloway both of Newland; his sisters; Nancy Tate of Thomasville, NC; Gail Bailey of Roan Mountain, TN; and Irene Benfield and husband, Thomas of Newland; his brother; Billy Joe Calloway and wife, Dora of Newland; his girlfriend; Priscilla Beaver of Lincolnton; there are sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Bobby Gene Calloway on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Elk Mountain Baptist Church with the Rev. Josh Calvert officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Webb Funeral Home.
