Charles Runion

Charles Runion, age 83, of Feldspar Street in Spruce Pine passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at his home.Born on September 30, 1938 in Unicoi County, TN, he was the son of the late Burt and Lilly Farnor Runion. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Blackburn Runion. He was also preceded death by his sisters; Clara Hensley and Rebecca Crawford and his brothers; Luke, J.B., Bill and Bob Runion.Charles was retired from the Spruce Pine Housing Authority in the maintenance department and was previously employed by Hampshire Hosiery. Charles was avid supporter of Mitchell High School Mountaineer football. Over the past twelve years he had attended all but two games. He was an integral part of the group of volunteers that helped to paint the side hash marks on the field before all home games for the past ten years. He loved his family, children, and grandchildren and spending time with them. He enjoyed family gatherings. Charles was known as a caring person that was good to all people and was also concerned about others and their well-being. He also enjoyed going to the Mitchell County Senior Citizens Center and spending time with his acquaintances and playing pool. He liked hunting and also hunting ginseng, ramps and eating ramps, too.Left to cherish his memory is his sons; Mike Runion and wife, Loretta of Spruce Pine and Mark Runion and wife, Connie of Bakersville; his daughter; Tammy Buchanan and husband, Terry of Spruce Pine; his sister; Betsy Harris and husband, Sanford of Stella, NC; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins all of whom he loved and they loved him in return.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service for Charles Runion on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 3:30 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev’s.
