Dorothy Sparks

June 13, 1940 - January 7, 2021

Dorothy Stewart Sparks, age 80, of Sparks Road in Bakersville, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville. Born on June 13, 1940 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late George and Rose Butner Stewart. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Sparks who passed away in 2002. Also preceding her in death were her brothers; Frank, Harry, Jimmy, Lewis, and George Stewart, Jr. and her sisters; Carrie Wise and Virginia Watson. Dorothy was a member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed talking on the telephone. She was an outstanding cook that enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Her specialties included homemade fried chicken and biscuits and gravy. She also enjoyed working in her flowers. Left to cherish her memories are her son; Howard Sparks and wife, Kim of Hendersonville; her daughters; Shelia Benfield and husband, Lewis of Spruce Pine and Loretta Burleson and husband, David of Lenoir; her sisters; Grace Robinson and Martha Wright both of Valdese and Mary Dodson of Morganton; her brothers; Tommy Stewart and wife, Agnes of Morganton and Charles Lee Stewart and wife, Mary Lou of Spruce Pine; there are seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be on Monday, January 11, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Shane Silvers officiating. Interment will be in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Due to the current COVID-19 regulations, our staff is committed to taking care of our guests and families that we serve.
