Earl 'Sonny' Burleson Jr.

October 9, 1944 - March 22, 2019

Earl ‘Sonny’ Burleson, Jr., age 74, of Pine Run Ridge Road in Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 22, 2019 at his home. Born on October 9, 1944 in Avery County, he was the son of Lorene Burleson and the late Earl Jason Burleson. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a son, Davie Burleson; a brother, Rick Burleson; and a sister, Shirley Crowder. Sonny attended the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and was retired from Brad Ragan, Inc. with thirty years of service. He was a loving, husband, father, and friend. He loved his church and church family. He enjoyed working in his yard and restoring classic cars. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of forty-eight years; Maxine Pitman Burleson of the home; his son, Donnie Burleson and wife, Kaye of Spruce Pine; his daughters; Lorie Rice and husband, Darrell of Weaverville and Tammy Taylor and husband, Bo of Morganton; his mother, Loreen Burleson of Spruce Pine; his sister, Maxine Carpenter of Gastonia; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service for Earl ‘Sonny’ Burleson on Monday, March 25, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Randy Burleson and the Rev’s Toby Crowder, Nathan Silver, Colton McKinney officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to extend a ‘Special Thank You’ to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, Lacey Carroll, and Tara McKinney for the extraordinary care of Sonny and his family during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Maxine Burleson to assist with funeral costs.
