Joe Benfield, age 80, of Heartland Road in Morganton, the Chesterfield community, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022.Born in Avery County on September 29, 1941, he was the son of the late Thomas Andrew and Claira Moody Benfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Justin, George, Donald, Wayne and James Benfield and his sisters; Martha Calloway, Nola Benfield and Frances Sheehan.Joe attended the River Valley Baptist Church. He loved all of his family, but he was particularly proud of his sons and spending time with them. He loved working in his garden, walking the hills and mountains and animals. He also enjoyed watching old western movies and the Andy Griffith Show.Left to cherish his memory is his sons; Joseph Benfield of Morganton and Jacob Benfield and wife, Tonya of Morganton; his grandchildren; Samantha, Kaitlyn, Kaiden, Kayleigh, Zachary, Savanah, Caleb, Tyler, Chasity, and Nikki; twelve great grandchildren; his brothers; Bill Benfield and wife, Chenill of Newland and June Benfield and wife, Irene of Newland and his sisters; Dora Calloway and husband, Joe of Newland; Hazel Calloway and husband, Mace of Newland; Pat Scarlet and husband, Tony of Lexington, NC; Murt Burleson and husband, Sam of Newland; and Katie Benfield and husband, Charles of Lexington, NC.A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be Thursday, March, 3 2022 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev’s Jonathan Burnette and Charley Bradley officiating. Interment will be in the Yellow Mountain Cemetery.The family would like to extend a ‘Thank You’ to Hospice of Caldwell County for their care of Joe.Words of comfort may be emailed to the family by going to our website, www.webbfh.com, selecting Joe Benfield’s name, and then you may sign his guestbook.
