Mabel Goforth, age 99, of Avery Lane in Sevierville, TN, formerly of Spruce Pine died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Ft. Sanders Sevier Nursing Home.Born on March 31, 1917 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Cora Davis Townsend. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Bill Goforth, who passed away in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her brother; Ted Townsend; her sisters; Agnes Calhoun and Alma Crowder; and her son-in-law; Dick Leonard.Mrs. Goforth was a charter member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she served as the teacher for the adult ladies Sunday School Class. She loved the Lord, her church, and church family. She will be remembered as a ‘prayer warrior’ who had many people contact her for prayer requests. She spent much of her life helping others in need. She enjoyed crafts, baking and decorating cakes. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, and sewing. She had also written a complete book of poems.Left to cherish her memories are her sons; Bill Gofoth and wife, Bonnie of Sarasota, FL and Charles Goforth and wife, Janice of Oklahoma City, OK; her daughter; Carolyn Leonard of Sevierville, TN; her sister; Elizabeth Woody of Spruce Pine. There are seven grandchildren; one step grandson; thirteen great grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Mabel Goforth on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Luther Carver officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 1:00 pm until the service hour in the funeral home chapel.
