Martha Ruth Carpenter

Martha Ruth Carpenter, age 75, of Tempie Mountain Road in Spruce Pine died Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville.Born on April 18, 1942 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Guy M. and Helen Clark Carpenter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers; Ralph, J.D., David, and Buddy Carpenter; a daughter, Donna Renee Sparks; and a great granddaughter, Sarah Dawn Carpenter.Martha Ruth was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Spruce Pine. She enjoyed gardening and flowers and also canning and cooking. She loved animals, particularly dogs and cats. She also enjoyed drinking coffee.Left to cherish her memories are her sons; Jackie Carpenter and wife, Christel of Spruce Pine; Ricky Dale Sparks of Spruce Pine; and Jamie Ellis Waycaster of Spruce Pine; her sister; Marie Carpenter Lynch of Hickory; there are ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Martha Ruth Carpenter on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the First Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph Hedrick officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 2:00 pm until the service hour at the church.
