Mary Elizabeth Spry, age 92, of Three Mile Hwy. in Newland died Sunday, August 26, 2018 at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation Center in Spruce Pine.Born on February 17, 1926 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel George Smith, Jr. and Bessie Justice Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Jim Spry, and her brothers; Hall, Herman, Howard, Sam Jr., Ted and Paul, and her sisters; Helen and Hazel.Mary was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church. She loved farming with her husband as they grew strawberries and sold them in the surrounding area. She loved taking care of her family, and she was an amazing cook and enjoyed canning. Left to cherish her memories are her son; Owen Spry of Newland, her grandson, Thomas and her granddaughter; Montana. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the graveside service honoring the life of Mary Spry on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Temple Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev’s Timothy Rupard and Luther Carver officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the graveside in the Temple Baptist Church Cemetery. our family will always treasure the many memories we have with Mrs Mary. She took us in and always treated us like we were a part of her family and always showed us love. everytime we would visit, we never left until she hugged our necks and told us that she loved us. Mrs Mary will definitely be missed and I know she will be waiting on us there! Heaven just keeps getting sweeter!!! Praying for the family that she left behind- Love you Mrs Mary, until we meet again.....
