Maxine Duncan, age 70, of Washburn Road in Spruce Pine died Sunday, September 17, 2017 at her home.Born on April 27, 1947 in Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Ellen McNeill Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Duncan who passed away in 1998. Also preceding her in death were her sister; Maphra Armstrong; brother, James Grindstaff; and her grandsons; Justin and Jonathon Robertson.Maxine will be remembered for her love of cooking, reading, and working in her flowers. She also deeply loved her grandchildren, and her 6 lb Chihuahua, Mia. Maxine retired from Baxter after 34 years of service.Left to cherish her memories are her daughters; Donna Mask and husband Robert of Spruce Pine, Melinda Robertson and husband Chris of Bakersville, grandchildren; Austin Mask, Rylie Mask, Dylan Robertson, Hunter Robertson and his girlfriend Hannah Andrews, her sisters; Velma Conrad and husband Carl of Burnsville, Betty Frye of Burnsville, her brother; Phillip Grindstaff and wife Susie of Forsyth, Georgia, and several nieces, nephews and friends.A time to support the family, share memories and gather with friends and family will be on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Webb Funeral Home.The family would like to say ‘Thank You’ to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their wonderful care of Maxine.For those wishing to make a donation in Maxine’s honor do so to the charity of your choice.
