Michael Dellinger

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Michael Olen Dellinger. Born the youngest son and middle child of the late Olen and Eula Dellinger on December 17, 1953. He was known as a child as his daddy’s, ‘baby rooster’.He was a lifelong resident of Avery County. He graduated from Avery County High School in 1972 and worked for Harris Clay/Unimin Mining and OMC in Spruce Pine before going to work at Baxter Healthcare in 2001 where he was still employed. He started experiencing declining health in March of this year.He enjoyed excavating the rock around his house by hand, looking for precious stones. He also loved being in the woods, looking for and propagating ginseng.He was the father of two sons; James Joseph (Jimmy Joe) who passed away in 2001 and Joshua Pennington of the home. He is also survived by grandson; Justin of the home; daughter-in-law; Shanda Dellinger and grandchildren; Bethany, Hannah, and Oliver of Morganton.Also left to cherish his memory are his siblings; Gerald, Jimmy and wife, Sara; Anna; Diane and husband, Kenneth; Olena and husband, Richard; Melissa and husband, James; and one living aunt; Lina and husband, Ray.
