Mike Ballew

Mike Ballew, age 71, of Washburn Road in Spruce Pine, died Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Smokey Ridge Health & Rehab in Burnsville.Born on May 31, 1948 in Yancey County, he was the son of the late Thelma Ballew. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Ballew; a stepson, Kenneth Mace; and two step grandsons; Christopher Carpenter and Dustin Duncan. Mike was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a music lover and loved playing his guitar and singing. He also loved his animals and in his spare time he enjoyed fishing.Left to cherish his memories are his wife of forty-three years, Leila Ballew of the home; his daughters; Sheila Duncan and Kathy Stewart both of Spruce Pine and Kierra Carpenter of the home; his son; Everett Mace of Burnsville; his brother; Dwight Ballew of Burnsville; his sister; Martha Garman of Burnsville; there are eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service for Mike Ballew on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Toby Crowder and Bruce Cannon officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the church. Interment will be in the Mt.
