Mildred Hughes Stafford, age 91, of Violet Lane in Plumtree, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Brian Center Health & Rehab in Spruce Pine.Born on April 10, 1930 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Hobart and Zona Hughes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Stafford who passed away in 2012. Also preceding her in death was her daughter; Cynthia Stafford; her brothers; Robert, Phillip, Lester, and Sonny Hughes and her sister; Vickie Young.Mildred retired from the Tar Heel Mica company following twenty-five years of service. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed going to yard sales and shopping. She also enjoyed gardening and visiting the beach.Left to cherish her memories are her grandsons; Kostas and Alex Tsilianos; her great granddaughters; Emily and Ally Williams; and her sisters; Kathy Hoilman, Alice Hughes, and Jean Oaks.Graveside services and burial will be on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Yellow Mountain Cemetery.Due to the current COVID-19 regulations, our staff is committed to taking care of our guests and families that we serve. Please understand we will be following the State’s COVID guidelines.
