Phillip McKinney, age 75, of Rock House Creek Road in Spruce Pine died Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville.Born on January 23, 1945 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Howard and Gladys Canipe McKinney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ed McKinney.Phillip was a U.S. Army veteran that served his country during the Vietnam War. He was retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections with thirty years of service. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on guns and target shooting. He also enjoyed hunting and going to flea markets.Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Carolyn M. McKinney; his brother; Rex McKinney and girlfriend, Sonji of Denver, NC; his sister; Margaret Henderson; his nieces; Tracy Flake and Marie Clawson; and his nephews; Sammy and Eddie McKinney.A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be on Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev. Nathan Silver officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlee Cemetery.
