Ray Gouge, age 80, of McHone Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Friday, June 10, 2022 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville.Born in McDowell County on April 12, 1942, he was the son of the late Henry and Marcella Sparks Gouge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister; Bernice Gouge; his brothers; Donald Gouge and Allen Duncan and his best friend and companion, Rambo.Ray proudly served his country serving in the U.S. Marines. He was an award winning long distance truck driver and was recognized for traveling over four million safe miles in his career. In 1998 and 1999, he was named to the North Carolina Road Team as one of the top four drivers in the state. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing card games and was an avid Duke basketball fan.Left to cherish his memory is his wife; Dawn Gouge of Spruce Pine; his sons; Tyrone Gouge and wife, Lorrie of Thurmond, NC and Jeff Gouge and wife, Kerry of Wilmington, NC; his daughter; Kristi Sexton and husband, Nick of Winston-Salem, NC; his brothers; Henry L. Gouge of Newton, NC, Carl Gouge of Bakersville, Keith Duncan and wife, Rhonda and Kenneth Duncan and wife, Sandy all of Morganton; his sisters; Ileane Burleson and husband, Rusty of Bakersville, Irene Henson and husband, Bob of Spruce Pine, and Carol Ann Robinson and husband, Jeff of Bakersville; his sisters-in-law; Kitty Gouge of Nebo, NC and Sheila Duncan of Spruce Pine; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and his current best friend and companion, ‘Sparky’.Graveside services and interment will be on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Brent Frady officiating. Military Graveside services will be conducted by Sgt. E.L. Randolph D.A.V.
