Rex Edward McKinney, age 78, of Barney McKinney Road in Spruce Pine, the Halltown community, died Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at his home.Born on December 30, 1940 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Roy and Maude Biddix McKinney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Anthony McKinney.Rex was a member of the Berry Chapel Baptist Church and he loved the Lord. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation with thirty years of service. Rex was known as a people person and also a happy person that enjoyed making people laugh. He enjoyed singing and was a member of the Golden Age Singers. He also enjoyed hunting. He loved his family and particularly his grandchildren.Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Paulette McKinney of the home; his sons; Mark McKinney of Spruce Pine and Rocky McKinney and wife, Connie of Bakersville; his grandchildren; Ethan, Candice, and Kaleb; his great grandchildren; Tatem, Ryker, Alyssa, Shelby, and Jack; his sisters; Sabra Hall of Spruce Pine, Gay Wilson of Conover, and Beverly Yelton of Lenoir; his brother-in-law, Edward Jarrett and wife, Deanna of Forest City; and his sister-in-law, Betty Jarrett of Spartanburg.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the memorial service for Rex McKinney on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 7:00 pm at the Berry Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Williams officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Berry Chapel Baptist Church.
