Roger Jack Rhyne, age 77, of U.S. 19-E in Newland, entered into his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Roger was the son of the late Jack and Ruth Rhyne of the Spear community. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Hughes Rhyne.Born on May 31, 1939, he was a lifelong resident of Avery County and a member of Crab Orchard Freewill Baptist Church. Roger, a devout Christian, served as a deacon and was faithful to his church and church family. Lovingly referred to as ‘Homer’ by those closest to him, he liked working in his word puzzle books, hanging out with his buddies at the Spear garage, and was an avid sports fan. Roger was true Ford man and through the years he had several cars and trucks and enjoyed watching NASCAR racing. A friend to everyone, he will be dearly missed by all that knew him.Left to cherish his memories are his brothers; Larry Rhyne of Spear; Charles Rhyne and wife, Lela of Three Mile; David Rhyne and wife, Linda of Nebo; his mother-in-law, Edna Ruth Hughes of the home; sister-in-law and caregiver, Brenda Singleton and husband, Tommy of Roaring Creek; Roger is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service celebrating the life of Roger Rhyne on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Rev’s. Kagan Young and Steve Beam officiating. A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 5:00 pm until the service hour in the funeral home chapel.
