Sandra Houston Setzer, age 69, of U.S. 19-E in Spruce Pine, the Estatoe community, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021 at the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN.Born on September 24, 1951 in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Marson and Essie McKinney Houston, but spent her childhood growing up in Avery County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter; Angela Houston and her sisters; Patricia Houston and Ann Lovelace.Sandra was retired from Corning Cable Systems and a member of the Powdermill Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother and Nana to everyone. Her doors were always open to everyone. She loved her children and grandchildren. She also loved cooking delicious meals and sharing them with family and friends.Left to cherish her memories are her sons; John Dula of Hudson, NC and Jamie Dula of Oklahoma City, OK; her sisters; Wilma Furr of Wilmington, NC and Debbie Sheets of Morganton; her brothres; Vance Houston, Allen Houston, and Randy Houston all of Newland, and David Houston of Morganton; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Powdermill Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 6:00 pm at the Powdermill Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Michael Burnop and David Burnop officiating. Sandie was a big part of my teenage life, loved hanging out with her and eating her famous cabbage and tomato with mayonnaise. She was like a big sister to me, loved her very much!!
