Thomas Willard Dellinger, age 74, of Rosemond Avenue in Jonesboro, AR, passed away Monday, January 3, 2022 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, AK.Born in Huntington, WV on November 27, 1947, he was the son of the late Norris and Peggy Dellinger.Thomas was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart medal. He was a retired school teacher with thirty-eight years of service with Jonesboro High School. He began preaching in 2005 and for the last ten years he had served as the pastor of Bono United Methodist Church. He loved his church and congregation. He was a Gideon for most of his life. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling, hiking, any type of activities with his grandsons including ball games, awards ceremonies, and Boy Scout activities.Left to cherish his memory is his wife of thirty-seven years; Darlene G. Dellinger of Jonesboro, AR; his daughter; Mary Barkley and husband, Josh of Jonesboro, AR; his grandsons; Jacob and Austin Dellinger of Jonesboro, AR; his brother; Charles Dellinger and wife, Sue of Orange Park, FL; his niece; Jennifer Dellinger; and his nephews; Charlie and Tim Dellinger.A time to support the family, share memories, and receive friends will be Sunday, January 9, 2022 from 2:00 pm until 2:30 pm at the Pisgah United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at 2:30 pm at the Pisgah United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Duckworth officiating. Mr. Dellinger educated my older brother and I in high school. He was a wonderfully kind man and we are saddened to learn of his passing. The Broadaways offer their condolences to the family as they continue to navigate this loss. Mr. Dellinger was such an engaging teacher -- his sense of humor kept us watching, and his intuitive explanations made the material seem easy. He opened up a world of mathematics for me, and almost all the calculus I still remember is from that one year in high school. I'm sorry I never got the chance to catch up and tell him so, but I'm grateful that I was in his class at JHS.

I taught with Tom Dellinger at Jonesboro High School in the math department for several years. He was very smart and usually taught advanced mathematics classes. His students seemed to like him very well, partly because of his sense of humor. An example of that was when he walked into the math office after school one day and enthusiastally said "Well another day and another 50 cents." (referring to the low salary that most teachers at that time made. That got a big laugh from the teachers present ! He was really witty like that which made his students like him too.

My condolences go out to his family, which I never met ,but I'm sure he will be missed. RIP Tom Dillenger. Jean Strauser

My siblings and I all had Mr Dellinger at JHS--92-96. We all remember him fondly. He had such joy and humor in his teaching. It is a testament to his character that we all have our own anecdotes that immediately came to mind when we heard of his passing, even 30 years down the road. Love and support to his family. The Smith kids will always say weeeee! when we see a parabola!

Mr. Dellinger was my 12th grade AP calculus teacher at Jonesboro High School in 2000-2001. I will always remember his kind and calm demeanor and sense of humor in the classroom. He was a good man, and he will be missed. Prayers for your family.

I just heard of Tom's passing. We are so sorry for your loss. I taught with Tom for several years at JHS, my wife was in many math workshops with him, and our daughter was one of his students. He was a good man.

Mr Dellinger was such a wonderful teacher and such a nice person. I still quote him today….more than 20 years after being his student. I’ve seen many former students remembering him today on social media and quoting the witty things he would say to us as well as reflecting on his kindness. I hope his family will find comfort in knowing how many people he impacted and how many of us still think of him. Prayers for all his loved ones.
