Audrey Victoria Proffitt Davenport, age 102 passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Brian Center in Spruce Pine. She was born Jan 1, 1917 in Burnsville to Rassie and Janie Jones Proffitt. She married Henry Clay Davenport on August 18, 1945. Clay passed away December 2, 1959.Audrey, known to many, as “Nana” was a talented seamstress to family and friends for many years, displaying a wonderful knack for creating beautiful clothing and other items. She sewed many wedding gowns and dresses for several young ladies and always added her own touch. One of her greatest pleasures was attending the Spruce Pine United Methodist Church where she was the oldest member. She loved to make items for the yearly bazaar at the church. She lived a full life through simple pleasures of spending time with family and friends. For several years she was a caregiver for her father, mother and brother Arnold. During this time she was a member of the Bald Creek Methodist Church Ladies group. She enjoyed the times of quilting, traveling with them, and being a part of their weekly gathering. In the summer Audrey enjoyed working in her flowers and especially her garden. She always seemed to have an abundance of vegetables to put away for the winter. In addition to her parents and her husband, her brothers Otto, Otis and Arnold, sisters Dorothy, and Opal and son-in-law, Ronnie Parsley preceded her in death.Left to remember Audrey is her son Richard (Benna) Davenport, daughter Janie Parsley, grandsons Shane (Deborah) Parsley, Clay (Cathy) Davenport, great-grand children, Jacob Davenport, Tyler Parsley, Caleb Parsley and Hannah Parsley and step great grandson Daniel King. During my time at the Brian Center in Spruce Pine, I had the pleasure to know, love and respect Mrs. Audrey. She was a ray of sunshine to all who knew her. God bless her. When I visited her in May, I could tell her health was declining, with poor vision and less hearing, but she was happy for company and knew exactly who I was. She is missed here, but she is in excellent hands now.

I will really miss visiting Audrey in the Brian Center. She was always so happy to see visitors and wanted to know of any news from her church and the community. She was an inspiration to me and to many others who knew her.. She was a true Christian lady.
