Daisy Burnette

Daisy Mae McKinney Burnette, age 102, of McKinney Mine in Spruce Pine, the Little Switzerland community, died Monday, August 5, 2019 at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine.Known by all as; ‘Mama Daisy’, she was the last surviving child of the late Jess and Mattie Hollifield McKinney. She was born on May 22, 1917 in Mitchell County and was the wife of the late Harley Burnette, Sr. who passed away 1987. She was also preceded in death by two sons; Harley Burnette, Jr. and Roger Burnette, Sr. Mama Daisy was the oldest living member of the Black Mountain Baptist Church and also the oldest resident of the Mitchell House.Mama Daisy loved everyone she came in contact with and they loved her in return. She was known as a, ‘Mother to all’ and she loved her all of her family. She enjoyed her flowers, hummingbirds, canning, and cooking. She had made quilts for all of her grandchildren. Her Sunday family lunches were the best and they began and ended with her and her delicious bisquits and cornbread.Left to cherish his memories are her son; Jimmy Burnette of Spruce Pine; her daughter-in-law; Faye Burnette of Spruce Pine; her grandchildren; Carolyn Johnson, Stevie Burnette, Marsha Pitman, Lisa Cooke, Kathy Bolick, Linda Whitener, Roger Burnette, Jr., and Tina Burnette, twelve great grandchildren, and fifteen great great grandchildren.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service for Daisy Burnette on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 3:00 pm at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Homer Murdock, Jr. and Monroe Cooke officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Saturday, August 10, 2019 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the church.
