Frederick Gormly

Frederick Charles “Fred” Gormly, age75, of Ridgeview Road, Spruce Pine, passed away Wednesday evening, July 17, 2019, at the Brian Center in Spruce Pine, North Carolina.Born on July 30, 1943 in Rochester, New York, he was a son of the late Alfred T. Gormly and Mary Olga Reiter Gormly. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Gormly. Fred was a man of faith, and a caring, loving husband, father and grandfather. Fred’s passion was anything with wheels, which led to his career as an owner, operator and driver of his own open wheel race team. He owned many antique and collectible cars. He was known as a generous gentle giant, who enjoyed helping people, and never complained, even during his recent illness.Left to cherish his memory are his wife of ten years, Gloria Gormly of the home; two daughters, Tina Anderson, and Shannon Pryor and husband Greg, all of Holley, New York; one granddaughter, Kayla Pryor; one grandson, Logan Pryor; one sister, Kathleen Schipper of Madison, Wisconsin; and one brother, Tom Gormly, of Leroy, New York.
