Joyce Buchanan

Joyce Buchanan, age 96, of Stafford Road in Spruce Pine, died Monday, April 1, 2019 at the Brian Center in Spruce Pine.Born on December 12, 1922 in Mitchell County, she was born to the late Willard B. and Vaultie Wilson Buchanan. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, James Roscoe Buchanan who passed away in 1967. She was also preceded in death by sisters; Lela Duncan, Marie Sparks and Melba Rhyne, brothers; Jim, Joe and Willard Buchanan, and a grandson; Jamie Pitman.Joyce was a member of the Pine Branch Baptist Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years. She also enjoyed being a member of the quilting group at Pine Branch and being with her friends. Joyce loved to read. Left to cherish her memoires are her daughter; Judy Pitman and her husband James, of Spruce Pine, her sons; Dennis Buchanan and his wife Susie, Richard Buchanan and his wife Wanda and Stanley Buchanan all of Spruce Pine, her sister; Phyllis Sirovy of Texas and her brother; Jack Buchanan of Virginia, eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service for Joyce Buchanan on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the Pine Branch Baptist Church with the Rev’s Bobby Joe Greene and Steve Williams officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Pine Branch Baptist Church.
