Joyce Greene, of Walnut Cove, formerly of Bakersville, went home to be with her Savior and Lord on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at LifeBrite Community Hospital of Stokes in Danbury, NC.Born in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Holden and Cora Stevens Garland. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Greene who passed away in 2008. She was also preceded in death by a daughter; Kathy Greene; her sisters; Faye Clemmer, Lois Burch, and Mae Michael; and her brothers; Shelby and Bill Garland.Joyce loved the Lord and her church family. She will be remembered as a prayer warrior and also for witnessing to everyone she met. She enjoyed singing and sang in two gospel music groups, the Silver Chapel Trio and Cub Creek Trio, and she was a member of the Willow Oak Baptist Church. She loved her family and was a wonderful grandmother to her granddaughter, Katy who was her life. She also loved children of all ages.Left to cherish her memories are her daughter; Linda Willis and husband, Rev. Clifford Willis of Walnut Cove; her granddaughter; Katy Willis of Walnut Cove; her sister; Kate Ormand and husband, Jimmy of Gastonia; and her brothers; Edmond Garland and wife, Jean of Bessemer City and L.H. Garland and wife, Mary Lynn of Stanley.The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the memorial service honoring the life of Joyce Greene on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Willow Oak Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Clifford Willis and Wesley Bullins officiating. I was so saddened to hear that Joyce had passed away. My sister and I stayed with her as little girls. We have the fondest memories of singing with her dad, who we called Poppie. We played with her poodle, Sheree, who thought she was a human. Joyce was beautiful, had a wonderful sense of humor, could sing beautifully, and never aged. I am so sorry about the passing of Joyce. She was a very special lady and I will always remember when she taught our teen class at cub creek church. Joyce was truly a blessing to all who knew her.
